  • 7th Grade Lock-In Registration 2024

    All eligible 7th grade students are invited to sign-up to participate in the 7th grade lock-in Friday, May 10th starting after school until 8:00pm. The cost is $25 and parents must register students via Eleyo. By submitting payment on Eleyo, parents and students acknowledge that they have read and agree to the rules for participation outlined in this document. Students must be registered via Eleyo by FRIDAY, May 3rd. (We suggest that you register early to avoid forgetting!) IF ANY PARENT WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER, PLEASE SIGN UP AT THIS LINK. Eligibility: Students may not attend the Lock-In if they received two N’s in citizenship on the Third Quarter Report Card or if they have been suspended during the last ½ of 3rd quarter or during 4th quarter. (We will refund registration if your child is not eligible. This is the only refund that will be given.) Tentative Schedule for the Lock-In: 3:15 – 4:30 pm.*Open Gym (volleyball, basketball, etc.) (students may bring outside sports equipment from home- make sure it is labeled with your name) *Karaoke & Music - Cafeteria *Cards, hanging out, games- Cafeteria Hallway *Outside Activities starting at 3:45pm (gaga ball, football, frisbee, etc.) if the weather cooperates 4:30 – 5:30 pm.*Pizza, Pop & Music (Dance/Karaoke) – Landing 5:30 – 8:00 pm.*Bounce House, Gladiator Jousting,Obstacle Course, Giant Slide - Gym *Karaoke, Bingo, Cards- Cafeteria & Hallway *Mill Creek Book of World Records - Hallway *Movie Room – Media Center Attire: *Clothing needs to be school appropriate. No spaghetti straps, low-cut shirts or open midriff areas. We should see no one’s underwear or undergarments. *Shoes must be removed when playing on giant inflatables, so socks are required. Medical Information: * If your child requires medication given between 3:10pm – 8:00pm, please contact Crystal Zurek at zurekc@dexterschools.org or call the Mill Creek Office at 734-424-4150 to make arrangements ahead of time. * We do not keep over the counter medication on hand at the Lock-In. * If your child has any other health concerns we should know about, please contact Crystal Zurek at zurekc@dexterschools.org. Additional Rules for the Lock-In: * Students must stay after school to attend the lock-in. Students may not leave the building and then enter the lock-in late without a parent to sign them in. * Students should not be running (except in a supervised game), pushing, jumping off the cafeteria steps or play fighting with each other at any time. If a student is being too physical with another student, we will call for the student to be picked up. * When participating in a supervised outdoor activity, students must remain on school grounds in the designated area. * No student shall open a door to the outside after 4:30pm. All students will remain in the building from 4:30pm until they are dismissed at 8:00pm (or signed out early by a parent). * When students are in the gym they should use equipment appropriately. If equipment is used dangerously or abused it will be taken away and/or the student will be sent home. * No skateboards, skateboarding or rollerblading will be allowed anytime during the Lock-In. * Students are discouraged from bringing their own food. Throughout the course of the event we will have pizza, pop, and snacks available. * Students ARE encouraged to bring their own water bottles! * If your child needs to arrive late or leave early, you will just need to enter the building to sign them out at that time. If your child is leaving early, please make sure they know to meet you at the front door to be checked out at the pre-determined time. *The event will begin after school and end promptly at 8:00 pm.     2024 CAMP DEXTER IS FULL and we have closed registration. Registration is still open for 2024-25 After Care but you will be waitlisted while we process requests. Priority will be given to processing requests for full-time schedules for both Camp Dexter and After Care. Dexter Community Education School Age Child Care provides essential support for working families through after-school care and special programs on non-school days. We specialize in enrichment and recreational activities outside of regular school hours for children from Young 5 through Grade 6. Our state-licensed child care services are staffed by qualified, experienced professionals who prioritize the well-being and enjoyment of every child. Each grade level enjoys tailored activities, games, projects, and both indoor and outdoor play. Children have the option to engage in reading and homework, alongside free time to develop social skills and explore personal interests. Our centers maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment, adhering to District policies and procedures at all times.All School Age Child Care programs are located at Bates. AFTER CARE: After Care operates from the school dismissal bell until 6:00 pm. We offer both full-time and part-time scheduling options (minimum of three days per week), with part-time schedules requiring consistent days/sessions throughout the entire month. The daily rate for After Care is $16.50. Care Staff escort Anchor, Beacon, and Wylie students from their schools to Bates for After Care and Half-Day Care. Creekside students are transported by bus to the hub and then walk to Bates. NO SCHOOL DAY CARE: Child care is available on most scheduled No-School days for children from Young 5 to 6th grade. This includes half days (from dismissal until 6 pm) and occasional full-day closures (from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm). Our programs are engaging, age-appropriate, and offer a wide variety of activities. The rate for half-day programs is $36/day, and for full-day programs, it's $66/day. On full-day No School days, students can be dropped off at the Bates front entrance after 7:30 am. CAMP DEXTER: Camp Dexter runs for nine weeks during the summer of 2024. Our activities include indoor/outdoor games, swimming, crafts, campers' choice time, movies, field trips, and more! The camp operates Monday through Friday at Bates School, with drop-off starting at 7:30 am and pick-up until 6:00 pm. The weekly rate for full-week schedules is $250. If space allows for partial-week schedules, the rate is $60/day. Camp Dexter is open to students who have completed either Kindergarten or Young 5 through fifth grade. A non-refundable fee of $75 is required at enrollment. Should you choose not to utilize the program after registration, this fee will not be refunded.     Mill Creek Middle School and Dexter High School athletics charge participation fees. Athletic Participation Fees are as follows: High School: $250 per sport, flat fee Middle School: $150 per sport, flat fee. There is a family cap of $1,000 per year. Full and Half Athletic Scholarships are available on a season-by-season basis. Please apply for scholarship funds as early as possible. Return the Athletic Scholarship Application to the DHS Athletic offices.

  • Bricks4Kidz - Summer

    Kids spend their young years playing with LEGO® Bricks, stacking the blocks together to create an immersive world. Bricks4Kidz takes this one step further with our LEGO®-Inspired after school classes and summer camp programs. These activities deliver play that’s fun, educational and enriching for each child. We use guided instructions with the students as they build a project and see their vision come to life. Summer 2024 - Brick City Lego Camp: Let’s build a CITY! There are many different types of engineering jobs, and building is one of the most fun! What would a city be without the architects and engineers who come up with the ideas, plans and building skills to make it all come together? Campers will put their engineering and architecture skills to work as they build city themed models using LEGO® Bricks. The sky’s the limit when campers are challenged to use their own ideas and skills to build a skyscraper taller than their heads! They’ll have a blast using custom-built cars to move the people of the city all around town – brick by brick! What an accomplishment to be able to proudly exclaim “We built this BRICK City!”" Ticket to Ride Amusement Park Lego Camp: Get your ticket to ride at Bricks 4 Kidz very own Amusement Park! Build you favorite amusement park ride with LEGOs. Campers will build a new ride each day, learning how to make things spin, roll, turn and rock. Then they will take what they have learned to design their own thrills and challenges. Motorized models maximize the action and the fun. Each camp day includes carnival- themed games, group challenges, model-building and more. (K-5th grade)
  • Canine Companion Dog Training

    The Canine Companion training philosophy is: dogs learn through experience, punishment training is dangerous, there are better options and reinforcement drives behavior. The only way to truly facilitate lasting behavioral change and rewire the way your dog thinks is through positive reinforcement. Force free, reward based trainers have put in the work, done the research, and will take the time to get to know your dog's individual learning style to keep everyone safe and help your dog learn. Doggy Life Skills - In this group class you’ll learn useful, real-life behaviors that are outside of the realm of normal obedience training. With a focus on proactive training, the goal is to foster mutual connection between person and dog and create adaptable dogs that are willing participants in their environments. This course is open to dogs of any age and training level, so long as they can be comfortable in a group class setting. Canine Good Citizen Prep - A group class for dogs who are generally well mannered but need some obedience refinement. We will cover the ten topics on the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test with the option to test for the title during the final class. Five classes with an optional make up on the 6th week. STAR Puppy - Socialization and early learning for puppies under a year old. All puppies MUST have all puppy shots prior to the class. This group class follows the AKC STAR Puppy guidelines and is perfect for first-time puppy owners. Everyone completing the 6 weeks program earns the STAR Puppy title. Six classes with an optional make up on the 7th week. Trick Dog - This group class is all about having fun and learning with your dog. Choose from a variety of tricks and beginner agility behaviors to work on and practice in a safe, fenced outdoor space under the guidance of a professional trainer. Leash Manners Seminar - One group class to learn how best to teach your dog to walk nicely on leash. Dog-Friendly Kid Seminar - One group class for the whole family to learn more about how dogs communicate and encourage a more dog-aware generation of kids. Puppy Play and Body Language Seminar - One group class for puppies 6 months and younger, to play under the supervision of their owners and a trainer and discuss dog body language and appropriate play.
  • Chess Scholars

    Chess Scholars: Develop your child's intellect through the royal game of chess! Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts. Chess has been proven to enhance children's motivation, concentration, focus, social skills, and creativity. Each day will consist of a fun, interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Both beginner and experienced players are welcome and will learn under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach.
  • Child and Babysitter Safety

    The class is the American Red Cross' babysitter's training – and will prepare you to become one of the most capable, trusted and in-demand sitters in your neighborhood. Babysitter training manual, DVD and certificate of completion included in class fee. Class topics include leadership, safety, basic care, first aid and professionalism. To enroll, students must be at least 11 years old by class start date and must attend all hours to receive the certification. Students may bring snacks and water bottle to class. During the school year, the class typically includes boys and girls, grades 5-8 and is located at either Mill Creek or Creekside. The Coordinator and instructor are aware of the different end times at the schools and will accommodate students arriving late from a building with a later dismissal time.
  • Community Ed Programming

    Our Community Education programming has engaging classes, fun teachers, and enriching experiences for all ages - after school, in the evenings, and on the weekends. Behavior Guidelines Please remember that participation in Community Education programs is voluntary. Students are expected to act respectfully throughout their participation. Community Education reserves the right to remove a student from a program at any time if they display inappropriate or unsafe behaviors. Cancellation Policy If you are unable to take the class you can request a refund. There will be a $5 deduction from any refunds except programs canceled by Community Ed. Scholarships Dexter Community Education offers Dexter School District families need-based scholarships for most of our programs. We offer one per child per catalog. Generally, students who qualify for free lunch through the schools qualify for a scholarship of up to $100 for one class per catalog; students who qualify for reduced lunch may be eligible for a partial scholarship. We may also offer scholarships for families with special circumstances on a case-by-case basis. We are not able to offer scholarships for programs that are not run by Community Education, nor for classes that do not meet minimum enrollments. All scholarships require the Director’s approval. If you register for a class using a scholarship and cancel less than one week prior to start date, you will forfeit your scholarship for that semester. Your signature on the application indicates that you have read and accept these policies. Once our office receives your application, we will confirm eligibility, but hold registration until the course meets minimum enrollment. Your “place in line” will be preserved.
