Running Club

Community Ed Programming / Youth Recreation and Sports -
Spring 2025

The purpose of the Running Club is to help students increase their overall fitness and endurance through the sport of distance running.  The program is offered in the fall, spring and summer.  Coaches use group games and running-related activities to promote the sport and encourage students to push themselves in a positive environment. The group as a whole works up to a mile and the games build fitness and endurance as well.  Some runners do chose to run more, but the mile is a really good goal for the majority of the group.  Open to all and tailored to everyone’s ability level.  Participants typically run rain or shine. Kalli and Corey Nowitzke lead the program in the fall and spring.  Tom Mikesell leads the program in the summer.

Spring 2025: We're offering Running Club on Mondays and/or Thursdays. You may sign up for either or both sessions. Everyone will meet at 3:15 at the Field of Champions behind Wylie for check-in and stretching before moving to Bates Field behind Bates School. The 5th/6th graders are encouraged to ride the bus to the bus hub. A Running Club t-shirt is included with the program this spring. Since this is an after school program, we typically need one volunteer to help check attendance each day. You may indicate your willingness to volunteer during the registration process. The Program Coordinator will contact the first 1-2 who indicate interest in volunteering.  In addition to the on-site race on the final day of the program, the students may choose to run in an optional meet on Thursday, May 23rd under the lights at Salem.
