Physical fitness, team sports and special events.
The Running Club helps students build fitness and endurance through distance running in a positive, encouraging environment. Under the direction of Program Coordinator Andrea Kelly, coaches incorporate group games, stretching, and running activities to make the program both fun and challenging.
The group works up to a mile, with some runners choosing to go farther, and the mile serving as a strong goal for most participants. All ability levels are welcome, and students are encouraged to push themselves while learning life lessons like perseverance, focus, and teamwork.
Run Club also includes a few friendly meets with nearby schools, giving kids the chance to experience team spirit and the excitement of running with peers from other communities. Participants typically run rain or shine.
For Fall 2025, the club will meet on Mondays and/or Thursdays at 3:15 p.m., beginning with check-in and stretching at the Field of Champions behind Wylie before moving to Bates Field. Fifth and sixth graders are encouraged to ride the bus to the bus hub. A Running Club t-shirt is included with registration.
Because this is an after-school program, we typically need one volunteer to help with attendance each day. Interested parents can indicate their willingness during registration, and Andrea will confirm with the first 1–2 who sign up.
Andrea has been passionate about running since age 12, competing in distance events at Ann Arbor Pioneer High School and Bowling Green State University. She holds a Master’s in Sports Science and Coaching and a Bachelor’s in Exercise Specialist Education. Andrea has coached boys’ and girls’ cross country and track, substitute teaches in Dexter, and has three children in Dexter schools. She brings energy and fun to Run Club, combining games, stretching, and lap running while teaching important lessons in perseverance and focus.
