Longsnouts Dog Training

Community Ed Programming / Adult Enrichment & Recreation -
Winter 2023

Longsnouts does dog training a little differently. How? We focus on building a strong, engaged, FUN relationship with our dogs, so that manners can be (more) naturally folded in. Relationships are dialogues, with clarity being a key component. Our classes include a variety of manners-based or sniffy opportunities. We like to include our dogs in our lives, so we focus on ways to successfully have that happen! At Longsnouts, we focus on using science- and reward-based training to enrich the human-canine relationship. Our goal is to live alongside relaxed, confident, well-mannered dogs able to successfully navigate our human world.

Confident Puppy Longsnouts *loves* to help puppies (and their humans) become confident, resilient residents as they learn how to navigate our world! Our puppy class includes 'socialization,' dog and human introductions, body awareness (it's more important than you know!), and all sorts of skills we call manners (like mat relaxation, recalls, polite walking, and more). Class is based on the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy, with the test available for those interested.

Beat the Winter Blues Let's face it, being cooped up inside for winter is hard for our dogs! Join us for a sampler-style class and kick those blues to the curb. You and your dog will have an opportunity to try different ways to use their nose, learn some tricks, all mixed in with a dash of manners. Working brains and learning new skills = more relaxed, happy, and knowledgeable doggos (and their humans!).

Manners & AKC Canine Good Citizen Everyone loves a well-mannered dog! They're fun to hang with and take all sorts of places. Join us for a class designed around the elements of the AKC's Canine Good Citizen test. We'll work on the basics or amplify skills already in progress...all while working around the distractions of other dogs (and whatever else Hannah brings to class)! Included skills: sit/down/stand and holding those positions, recalls (getting your dog to return to you reliably), polite walking, reactions to distractions, settling in a new/busy space, and more! Depending on dog's comfort level, we'll tailor the supervised supervision piece. Test will be available for interested parties.

Instructor Bio: Hannah, Lead Educator for Longsnouts, is currently owned by 5 busy, opinionated dogs, ranging from a yearling Malinois to a 14 year old Coonhound. She's lived alongside dogs for 20 years and been working in a professional training capacity since 2006.  Hannah loves to help create mannered dogs who can think independently, so we can enjoy our lives together. Her current passions include offleash romps (recalls!) and all things nose-related. Her youngest 3 dogs are all super sniffers: a retired Wilderness Airscent search dog, a Barn Hunt devotee, and an Explosives Detection dog in training. In short, she's busy keeping everyone sane!
