DYFL Football and CheerYouth Recreation and SportsDexter Youth Football is dedicated to teaching football and cheer fundamentals, focusing on positive teamwork in a safe and structured environment. Players will learn the fundamentals of offense and defense in a fun active setting. Registration fees include flags, jersey, and a mouthguard. Parent volunteers are needed. Practice times/locations are TBA. Games on Saturdays, 8-11am, 9/17-10/15, at DHS twin turfs. Tackle Football is offered to incoming 3rd through 6th graders: Registration fees include shoulder pads, helmet, integrated pants, and jersey. Football coaches are Heads Up Football trained and certified by USA Football. Tackle football will have one game per week and will have both home and away games. Participants will need a physical form completed by their family doctor before participating in official practices. Games are Saturday or Sunday, September 10-October 23. Home games on Sundays at Al Ritt (3/4 grade at 11:00a, 5/6 at noon); away games on Saturdays at the same times. The schedule will be available closer to the season. Drop in voluntary practices for 3rd-5th graders will be held 6-7:30p, on 8/16 and 8/17, at DHS twin turfs. Tackle Football evaluations will be held 6-7:30p, on Thursday, 8/18 at DHS twin turfs. Cheer is offered to incoming 3rd-6th graders - cheer for 3rd/4th and 5th/6th Grade Teams Learn the basic skills of sideline cheerleading, fundamentals of cheer, jumps, basic stunting and half-time routines in a fun-filled environment. Improve your overall fitness, develop leadership skills, make friends while learning to be a cheerleader. Practices 6pm-7:30pm, Mondays & Wednesdays, August 22 – October 26 , in the Bates Gym. Attendance at practice is required. Cheerleaders will cheer at DYFL home football games and potentially away games (2022 schedule TBA). In addition to $50 registration fee, each cheerleader will need to purchase a uniform, shoes and sweatshirt at an additional cost of $150.Fall 2022

Starting SoonExplore Field Hockey ClinicsYouth Recreation and SportsJoin us for a fun evening of exploring the game of field hockey. This is perfect for those who are curious but don't want to make a big commitment to play in the fall season before trying it out. We will have sticks available for you to borrow. We'll practice some basic skills, play some games, and even try a scrimmage at the end. This is suited for beginners OR less experienced players who want to strengthen their basic skills. Wear shin guards and bring a mouthguard (if they have them). All players are welcome regardless of gender or ability. Summer 2022: Two clinics, one on August 11 and the 2nd on August 18. If you register for a single clinic on either day, the fee is $25. If you register for both clinics, choose the $15 fee for the 2nd clinic on August 18.Summer 2022

Running ClubYouth Recreation and SportsThe purpose of the Running Club is to help students increase their overall fitness and endurance through the sport of distance running. The program is offered in the fall, spring and summer. Coaches use group games and running-related activities to promote the sport and encourage students to push themselves in a positive environment, while working on fitness and endurance. Open to all and tailored to everyone’s ability level. Participants typically run rain or shine. Summer: The summer program, for grades 3-8, is held at Hudson Mills Metropark, which requires the purchase of a vehicle entry pass. Running Club participants meet in the parking lot near the River Grove picnic shelter. Summer Coach Bio: Tom Mikesell is a life-long distance runner, logging over 40,000 miles, on trails whenever possible. He led the Dexter Summer Running Club program in 2021 and has coached cross country, volleyball, and track at Ann Arbor Steam since 2019. Kalli and Corey Nowitzke are planning to return to coach the Running Club in the fall.Summer 2022

Starting SoonSummer Field Hockey ClinicsYouth Recreation and SportsJoin us for skills sessions targeted to advance your specific skill-set in many areas. If you’ve spent the summer away from field hockey and are ready to dive back in before fall season, these are for you! The August 11 clinic will teach and improve your defensive skills. The first hour we will work on specific tackling and channeling skills. Then the second hour we will work on defensive strategy within the defensive zone as well as penalty corners. The August 18 clinic will teach and improve your attack skills. The first hour we will work on specific elimination skills that can be utilized anywhere on the field. The second hour we will work on shooting basics as well as offensive penalty corners. The clinics will be led by Rachel Baldwin and Courtney Klick and DHS student-athletes, who will prepare athletes for the fall season! All players are welcome regardless of gender or ability.
