Dexter Community Education’s School-Age After Care program provides dependable, state-licensed care for Dexter Community School students in Young 5s through Grade 6 on regularly scheduled school days.

Students participate in snack, supervised play, homework time, and enrichment activities in a structured, safe environment.

After Care follows the Dexter Community Schools calendar. Care runs only on regular school days. Non-School Days require separate registration.

Program Options

Bates After Care

Location: Bates Elementary
Hours: School dismissal – 6:00 p.m.

  • Young 5–4th grade students are checked in at DEEC or Wylie and walked to Bates by After Care staff.

  • 5th & 6th grade students shuttle from Creekside to the Bus Hub and walk to Bates.

Mini After Care (Limited Availability)

Based on interest from our returning families, Mini After Care will likely not be offered this fall. Families are still welcome to indicate interest during registration, as we will continue to monitor demand. If offered, Mini After Care is designed for families who need care immediately after dismissal for a shorter window.

Mini After Care would be located at Wylie Elementary (for Wylie students only) and DEEC (for DEEC students only), with hours running from school dismissal until 4:30 p.m. Space would be limited, and students would need to attend at their home school. Families would be committed to their assigned Mini location for the full school year, and transfers to Bates based on scheduling preferences would not be permitted. It is also possible that one location operates while the other does not, so families with children in multiple buildings should plan accordingly.

Schedule Requirements

  • Full-week registration is required (no partial weeks).

  • Tuition is charged for the full week regardless of attendance.

  • Drop-in care is not available.

Returning Family Definition

A returning family is one that has had an approved After Care or Camp Dexter contract during the current season or one season prior, provided the contract was not deleted from the system. Eleyo automatically determines what qualifies as “current and one season prior,” and we do not have the ability to override or change that setting.

Registration status is account-based. New siblings may register during the returning family window.

Registration & Approval Process

  • Registration is completed online.

  • Each child must have their own contract.

  • All contract requests are submitted as PENDING and begin on the waitlist.

  • Contracts are manually reviewed and approved in the order received.

  • A spot is not secured until families receive:

    • An approval email, and

    • A payment receipt for PROGRAM NAME: SCHOOL AGE CHILD CARE.

  • Confirmation is typically sent within five business days.

  • A $75 per child, non-refundable registration fee is charged upon approval.

  • Accounts with outstanding School-Age Child Care balances will not be approved until paid in full.

Fees & Billing

Daily Rates

  • Bates After Care: $16.50/day

  • Mini After Care: $11.50/day

Invoices are generated on the 15th of the month prior and Payment is due by the 25th of the month prior.
Fees are billed based on the registered schedule, regardless of attendance.

Sibling Discount

Beginning Summer 2026 and the 2026–27 school year:

  • First child: full rate

  • Second child: 20% discount

This structure maintains equivalent overall savings for two full-time participants while allowing discounts to apply more accurately for Camp Dexter and Non-School Day programs when only one sibling attends.

Non-School Days

Half days and Non-School Days require separate registration. These programs are typically held at Bates Elementary. Dates and pricing are posted on the Community Education website.

Licensing & Supervision

After Care is a state-licensed program and complies with all Michigan LARA requirements, including staff-to-child ratios, background checks, and required training.

Students are supervised by trained Care Directors, Leads, and Assistants.
